Until I saw the labels, I was thinking Truffaut's "Les Mistons." Cool convergence.

Thanks! I've never seen Les Mistons, actually. I just recently bought Criterion's Silent Ozu Eclipse box set—and since, at one point while seeing I Was Born, But... for the first time on the big screen recently, I was suddenly reminded of Charles Burnett's Killer of Sheep, and since I had that DVD on hand...well, basically, that's the genesis of this post right there.
